Most of what we do isn’t an emergency. It’s a truck sitting in a yard with a problem somebody needs fixed before the next load.
Maybe it has a check-engine light, an air leak you can hear from the cab, a marker light that quit, or a vibration the driver doesn’t like. Sending that truck to a shop means taking a driver off the road, making a tow or a risky drive, and waiting behind everyone else in line.
A mobile diesel mechanic fixes it where it sits. For a fleet running out of a yard in East Knoxville or off Middlebrook Pike, that can mean catching the problem between shifts instead of losing a tractor for days. For an owner-operator on a 10-hour break at Watt Road, it can mean the repair gets done while you sleep.
We work on Class 6 through Class 8 trucks and the trailers behind them: road tractors, day cabs, yard dogs, box trucks, dump trucks, and other diesel work trucks.

What needs a shop instead
Mobile repair covers a big share of what goes wrong with a truck, but some work belongs inside:
- Engine overhauls and in-frame rebuilds
- Transmission and clutch replacement on most trucks
- Major collision repair and frame straightening
- Paint and body work
- Warranty repairs that have to go through an OEM dealer
Check your warranty before any outside repair on a covered component. If the truck is under an OEM or extended warranty, read the terms first.
Repair it where it sits, or tow it?
Ask two things. Can the job be done safely where the truck sits? A level, lit yard is a very different place to work than an I-40 shoulder at night in the rain. And will the repair take less time on site than a tow plus the shop’s wait? For most sensor, air, electrical, cooling, and fuel filter jobs, the answer is yes.
When a truck is parked somewhere safe, like a yard, dock, or truck stop, bigger jobs can make sense on site too, because the mechanic isn’t working next to traffic. Describe the symptoms to dispatch and they’ll help you decide.

Mobile Truck Repair: common questions
How is mobile truck repair different from roadside assistance?
Roadside assistance is for a truck that’s stranded and needs help now. Mobile truck repair includes that, and also covers scheduled or non-urgent work at your yard, dock, jobsite, or truck stop parking spot.
Do you fix trailers too?
Yes — trailer brakes, lights, air lines, landing gear, suspension, and doors. See trailer repair.
What parts are on the service truck?
Common wear items like air fittings and line, filters, belts, fuses, and connectors. For a specific part — a starter, a sensor, a particular valve — give dispatch the year, make, and model so it can be picked up on the way when possible.
Can you work on the truck while I’m on my 10-hour break?
Often, yes. If the truck is legally parked at a truck stop and the repair doesn’t require moving it, the mechanic can work while you rest. Tell dispatch where you’re parked and how long you’ll be there.
Do you work on yard tractors and spotters?
Yes. Yard tractors at Knoxville-area distribution centers have the same air, electrical, hydraulic, and engine problems as road tractors. Call with the make and the symptoms.
Will I get paperwork for my maintenance file?
Ask for an itemized invoice listing the work and parts, and keep it with the truck’s records. Motor carriers are required to keep maintenance records on their vehicles.
